The imaginal realm (“mundus imaginalis”) is a concept that was coined by the the French philosopher and orientalist Henry Corbin. For Corbin, the imaginal has nothing to do with the imaginary, the term which connotes fabulation, unreality and fiction, rather, it describes a realm of reality which lies between the physical world and the world of pure spirit. While the imaginary implies a certain escape from reality, the imaginal realm is where reality itself comes into being through intelligent co-creation with archetypal forces.

Uslada, an artist born in Latvia and based in Belgium, engages with this realm in her paintings.

“When I create my paintings, I feel that I have access to deeper dimensions of reality. Each canvas contains a story which is woven from the symbols and archetypes that exist in the mystical realm. The otherworldly creatures that inhabit my art create a new reality and transcend the limitations of the material world. Each painting conveys spiritual truths and mysteries. It is a window into  the imaginal realm, inviting viewers to contemplate the hidden meaning of its symbols. My hope is that my art awakens in others a sense of wonder, awe and spiritual longing, opening up new horizons of meaning and understanding. When I make my art, I dance with the Divine. I become a spiritual alchemist,” says Uslada

The philosopher and writer Marcel Paquet, who wrote on, and knew personally, Magritte, Botero, Calder and Mirò, dedicated one of his last essays to her art.

Uslada's paintings will be presented at Galeria Solis until June 29, 2024. The vernissage will take place on Saturday April 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

L’univers imaginal de l’artiste Uslada

La notion du monde imaginal (“mundus imaginalis”) est une création conceptuelle du philosophe et orientaliste français Henry Corbin. Pour Corbin, l’imaginal n'a rien à voir avec l’imaginaire, terme qui connote fabulation, irréalité, fiction. L’imaginal fait référence, par contre, à un domaine de réalité intermédiaire et médiateur entre le monde physique et le monde de l'esprit pur. Alors que l'imaginaire implique une certaine évasion de la réalité, le monde imaginal est le lieu même d’où la réalité émane, produit d’une co-création intelligente avec les forces archétypiques.

Uslada, une artiste née en Lettonie et installée en Belgique, engage ce monde dans ses tableaux.

“En créant mes tableaux, je sens avoir accès à des niveaux profonds et occultes de la réalité. Chaque peinture présente une narration tissée des symboles et archétypes existants dans le monde mystique. Les créatures qui habitent mon art créent une nouvelle réalité qui dépasse les limitations limitations matérielles. Chaque tableau véhicule des vérités spirituelles et mystiques. C’est une fenêtre donnant sur le monde imaginal et qui invite les spectateurs à contempler la signification cachée de ses symboles. Mon espoir est d’éveiller chez autrui le sens de l’émerveillement et une soif spirituelle en s’ouvrant à de nouveaux horizons de perception et de lucidité. Quand je crée mon art, j’engage une danse avec le Divin, je deviens un alchimiste spirituel,” dit Uslada.

Le philosophe et écrivain Marcel Paquet, qui a connu et écrit au sujet de Magritte, Botero, Calder et Mirò, a dédicacé un de ces derniers essais à l’art d’Uslada.

Toute forme cache l’infinie mobilité des forces qui la constituent; Uslada tente de faire voir celles-ci, de rendre visible leur vibration, leur dansante et tourbillonnante insaisissabilité.”

Les tableaux d’Uslada seront présentées à la Galeria Solis jusqu’au 29 juin 2024.  Le vernissage aura lieu le samedi 20 avril de 17H00 à 21H00.
